||Firefighters and EMTs face unique challenges when it comes to Traffic Incident Management (TIM) and responder safety at roadway incidents. So far in 2017 there have been ten line of duty deaths for firefighters and/or emergency medical personnel from being struck by vehicles while working various types of incidents along roads and highways. There have also been three additional off-duty personnel struck-by-vehicle fatalities that will never show up in official statistics. Highway operations continue to be one of the most frequent hazards for fire and EMS personnel.
This webinar will review our loss experience to date and then outline the various resources available to fire service instructors who want to address this growing safety hazard with their personnel. The program will cover SOP/SOGs, national regulations and standards that apply to this topic, the provisions of the new NFPA 1500-2018 chapter on Traffic Incident Management, an overview of NFPA 1091 and suggestions on how to best train fire and EMS personnel on highway hazards and safety procedures.
