Getting Engaged: Advocating for the Fire Service on Capitol Hill in 2019

When:  Jan 14, 2019 from 11:00 to 12:00 (ET)
The 116th Congress will convene in January with over 100 new members in the House and Senate. For the fire service, the mission on Capitol Hill will be establishing positive working relationships with new and veteran members of Congress to preserve support for programs benefiting our nations' first responders. CFSI Executive Director Bill Webb and Government Affairs Director Sean Carroll will share their thoughts on how members of the fire service, including members of the International Society of Fire Service Instructors, can get engaged in this effort. They'll review some of CFSI's potential legislative priorities for 2019, important aspects of the legislative process that apply to the work we perform as advocates, and reasons for becoming involved.

Main objectives:
- Impressing upon the fire service the importance of grassroots advocacy on Capitol Hill.
- Explaining the mission of the Congressional Fire Services Institute in developing consensus on fire service issues addressed in Congress.
- The working relationships between CFSI and the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, one of the largest and most distinguished caucuses in Congress.
- Providing the tools and resources that will allow members of the fire service to become engaged in grassroots advocacy.
