Danger on the Highway! “D” Drivers, Autonomous Vehicles, and Other Hazards

When:  Apr 12, 2019 from 05:30 to 07:15 (ET)
Distracted, drowsy, drunk, drugged, and disgruntled drivers are striking firefighters and fire apparatus at road and highway incidents with increasing frequency. We can’t change the behavior of “D” drivers, but we can change how we operate to improve scene safety. This class outlines strategies and tactics for safer roadway incident scene operations. Participants will walk away with the essential steps and actions every fire department should be taking to protect their personnel from being struck on the highway. Keeping pace with technology, this class discusses also autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles and protective equipment such as connected vehicle technology.
